[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The police investigating allegations of recruitment corruption at LG Electronics are conducting summons investigations of related individuals and expanding the investigation. The police plan to conduct additional summons once the analysis of seized items is completed.
On the 6th, Lee Yong-pyo, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, stated at a briefing held at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency building in Naejadong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, “In relation to the LG Electronics recruitment corruption case, three related individuals have been booked, and about 20 people have been summoned for investigation.”
Earlier, the Intelligence Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a search and seizure over two days on the 18th and 19th of last month at LG Electronics Korea Sales Headquarters located in the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, and at the Sangam IT Center LG CNS, where LG Electronics’ work-related cloud systems are located.
The police plan to summon additional related individuals for investigation as soon as the analysis of the seized items is completed.
Additionally, regarding allegations that an emergency patient died due to a taxi blocking an ambulance, the police are investigating whether the taxi driver violated criminal law and plan to book additional charges if the allegations are confirmed.
Commissioner Lee said, “Currently, the taxi driver has been booked under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling, but we are also investigating whether there is a violation of criminal law.”
He added, “Various issues such as ‘murder by implied intent’ or ‘obstruction of business’ have been raised in the media and in petitions to the Blue House. We plan to investigate these comprehensively. We have questioned the taxi driver, the ambulance driver, and the family members who were riding in the ambulance, and have also taken statements from the medical staff at the hospital where the deceased passed away.”
To this end, the police have added one team from the Criminal Division’s Violent Crime Unit of the same Gangdong Police Station to the Traffic Accident Investigation Team and Traffic Crime Investigation Team, which were already investigating the case.
Meanwhile, regarding the case of abuse against security guards, Commissioner Lee explained, “Since May 25, a total of 48 related reports have been received, and 33 cases are under investigation. We have sent 13 individuals, including 10 residents, one each of building representatives, visitors, and the manager, to prosecution with opinions for charges such as assault, intimidation, obstruction of business, and insult.”
