More than half decrease compared to last month's final weekend... 452,131 attendees
'#Alive' occupies 54.1% seat occupancy but only 7.0% sales rate
New release 'Sorikkun' also falls far short of expectations... 5.1% sales rate
The number of weekend moviegoers has dropped by more than half. According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 6th, the number of visitors to movie theaters over the past weekend (3rd to 5th) was 452,131. This is a decrease of 547,349 from the last weekend of the previous month (26th to 28th), which had 999,480 visitors.
This decline is due to the slowdown in the rising trend of '#Alive' in its second week of release. It attracted only 255,866 viewers, which is 63.6% (447,086 fewer) less than the last weekend of the previous month (702,952). Despite occupying 54.1% (3,638,099 seats) of the seat occupancy rate, its sales rate was only 7.0%. The cumulative audience count stands at 1,546,964. The new release 'Sorikkun' also fell far short of expectations, drawing 34,010 viewers. Although it secured the second-largest number of seats (670,144 seats, 10.0% occupancy), its sales rate was only 5.1%. The cumulative audience count is 53,417.
'Innocence,' in its fourth week of release, attracted the second-largest number of viewers at 46,822. This is a 52.3% (51,352 fewer) decrease from the last weekend of the previous month (98,174). The seat sales rate was 7.6%, and the cumulative audience count is 807,155. 'Onward: The Magical Day,' in its third week, showed a similar decline. It attracted 35,868 viewers, which is 59.1% (51,930 fewer) less than the last weekend of the previous month (87,798). The seat sales rate was 7.6%, and the cumulative audience count is 343,036.
Among re-released films, 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Greatest Showman' stood out with strong performances. They attracted 25,601 (8.1%) and 4,846 (8.6%) viewers respectively, each with a seat sales rate above 8%. Among independent and art films, 'Baseball Girl' drew the largest audience with 1,959 viewers. It has led this category for three consecutive weeks, with a cumulative audience count of 33,259.
