[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Broadcaster Hyun Joo-yeop expressed envy after hearing about the annual salary of Ddotty, a YouTube gaming creator with 2.53 million subscribers.
On the 5th, on the KBS 2TV variety show 'The Boss Has Donkey Ears,' Hyun Joo-yeop appeared as the Chief Content Officer (CCO) and visited Sandbox Network, Ddotty's office.
During the broadcast, Hyun Joo-yeop said, "I was surprised to hear about Ddotty's monthly income," and joked, "Money doesn't get deducted when you subscribe, right?" causing laughter.
He then met Ddotty and visited his office at Sandbox Network to learn about YouTube.
Upon hearing that Ddotty's company's annual sales exceed 60 billion KRW, Hyun Joo-yeop said, "That's even more than the combined income of Jun Hyun-moo and Kim Sook, who host 20 programs."
He then asked Ddotty, "Can you tell me the number of views?" and Ddotty replied, "We have recorded 2.5 billion views over 8 years."
Ddotty encouraged Hyun Joo-yeop's YouTube activities, saying, "(If Hyun Joo-yeop starts YouTube) 3 billion views should be easy to achieve."
However, while touring the company, Hyun Joo-yeop showed more interest in the company facilities than in solo broadcasting.
When he showed interest in the draft beer dispenser installed in the company, the hosts said, "It looks like he came to see a restaurant rather than the company," which caused laughter.
He then asked Ddotty, "How does YouTube income generate?" Ddotty explained, "YouTube is an ecosystem that shares advertising revenue. If you create good content, ads are attached and you can generate income," adding, "One of Hyun Joo-yeop's very special areas is that he has a unique talent for mukbang."
In response, Hyun Joo-yeop said, "I'm interested, but I'm not used to talking while looking at the camera."
