Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Cha Hyeon-il Conducts 'Neighborhood Walk' in the Third Year of the 7th Local Government Term

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) has started "Visiting Yeongdeungpo 1st Street, A Walk Around the Neighborhood with the District Mayor" from the 3rd, marking the third year of the 7th local government administration.

This initiative involves going out to local livelihood sites to hear residents' vivid opinions.

The purpose is to naturally listen to the voices of residents from all walks of life about difficulties caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the district administration over the past two years by visiting stores or places that serve as community gathering spots throughout the area, and to reflect these voices in district policies.

As the first step, District Mayor Chae Hyun-il visited the beauty salon "Goun Hair Shop" located in the alleys of Dorim-dong on the 3rd. This beauty salon has been in business for over 10 years and has served as a neighborhood community center where about ten women in their 60s gather daily to chat.

Mayor Chae met with the elderly, attentively listening to the difficulties faced by the store due to COVID-19, the seniors' small neighborhood life stories, improvements and changes in Yeongdeungpo during the two years of the 7th local government, and their expectations for the future.

Next, Mayor Chae walked about 200 meters from "Goun Hair Shop" to visit "Ansimteo Village Yard."

"Ansimteo Village Yard" is a mural alley created by a residential environment improvement project carried out from April to November last year, preserving the history of the area where a well and laundry site once existed.

Mayor Chae met residents who directly participated in painting the murals at a pavilion located there. The residents shared stories about how the number of people using the village yard has increased since the mural alley was created and other changes in the neighborhood.

Lastly, Mayor Chae visited "Miss Ba Bangatgan," a store that has produced and sold sesame oil and perilla oil in the area for over 20 years, where he had a chat with about ten residents and the heads of the 22nd district of Dorim-dong.

Mayor Chae asked the store owner, Mr. Choi ○○, about the difficulties faced by the store due to COVID-19, inquired about the number of regular customers using the mill, and listened carefully to any other challenges in running the store.

"A Walk Around the Neighborhood with the District Mayor" will continue on the 6th. On the 6th, Mayor Chae plans to visit Daerim 1-dong to have an open and honest communication time with local residents.

Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, "This 'Walk Around the Neighborhood with the District Mayor' is to directly hear residents' voices on-site and reflect them in district policies," and added, "In the latter half of the 7th local government, we will continue to conduct field administration that finds answers on-site based on communication and cooperation."
