[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Former U.S. National Security Council (NSC) advisor John Bolton once again advocated for a Libya-style approach to North Korea.

On the 5th (local time), former advisor Bolton appeared on CBS's 'Face the Nation' and reiterated the Libya-style solution for North Korea's nuclear issue. He was dismissed by President Donald Trump after mentioning the Libya-style approach in an interview with this program.

When reminded by the host about his previous remarks emphasizing that the Libya-style approach is also appropriate for North Korea, he said, "I will stand by my statement."

He added, "Someday the president will learn some history and he will get better at it," indirectly criticizing President Trump for needing to learn more about history.

In late April 2018, Bolton appeared on Fox News and CBS's Face the Nation, stating that he had the Libya model in mind regarding North Korea's denuclearization.

The Libya model is a denuclearization method based on 'denuclearization first, then rewards.' This is completely different from North Korea's step-by-step approach called 'action for action.' Especially after the U.S. and Libya reached a nuclear negotiation agreement, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was ousted during the 'Arab Spring' and met a tragic end, which has caused North Korea to show a nervous rejection of the Libya model.

When former advisor Bolton said in a CBS interview that he was considering the Libya model, President Trump said everything was ruined and blamed Bolton for the deadlock in denuclearization talks with North Korea.
