[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] An endangered species, the 'Red Sea Turtle,' was found dead on the sandy beach of Pohang City, Gyeongbuk.


According to the Pohang Coast Guard on the 5th, a tourist discovered and reported a 150 cm long Red Sea Turtle dead on the sandy beach at Yonghan-ri coast, Heunghae-eup, Buk-gu, Pohang, at 4:54 PM the previous day. The Coast Guard transferred the turtle to the National Marine Biodiversity Institute as the carcass was not severely decomposed.


The Red Sea Turtle, a reptile of the Cheloniidae family, has a carapace length of about 1 meter and weighs between 150 to 400 kg. Due to its unusually large head, it is also called the 'Loggerhead Turtle.'
