First Elementary Student Confirmed COVID-19 Case in Gwangju Attends Regular Classes... Health Authorities on Alert

According to Gwangju Metropolitan City and health authorities on the 5th, a 3rd-grade student A at Ildong Elementary School in Buk-gu, Gwangju, was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on the 4th and classified as Gwangju case number 107.


It is known that A attended a worship service at Ilgok Central Church with his mother, who was case number 99, on the 28th of last month.


From the next day, the 29th, until the 1st, he participated in regular classes and after-school classes.


Accordingly, health authorities are conducting tests on about 40 people, including one homeroom teacher, one subject teacher, one after-school class instructor, classmates, and after-school class attendees.


Currently, since the 27th, 75 confirmed cases have occurred in the Gwangju area, and as the speed of community infection is serious, Gwangju City, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, and the Ministry of Education are discussing future academic operations. It is also known that opinions such as starting the vacation early and adjusting the school reopening date are being raised.
