[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] On the 4th, the Criminal Division 2 of Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam announced that it sentenced A (68) to 20 years in prison and ordered the attachment of an electronic location tracking device (electronic anklet) for 10 years for the charge of murder after stabbing a taxi driver with a weapon during a fare dispute.
Last December, A had an argument with taxi driver B (63) over unpaid fare in front of an apartment in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam. A then brought a beer glass containing coins from his residence, poured it onto the passenger seat, and threw the empty glass.
Angered by this, B engaged in another scuffle with A, who then stabbed B multiple times with a weapon he had, resulting in B's death.
The court stated, "Although it is difficult to find a clear motive, the defendant wielded a weapon to kill the victim and showed no sincere remorse for the crime," adding, "Considering the motive and circumstances, there is a risk of reoffending murder, so the attachment of an electronic anklet is ordered."
