[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Ki-dong] Mokpo City announced on the 4th that it will mandate mask-wearing when using public transportation starting from the 6th to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The city issued an administrative order on the 28th of last month requiring mask-wearing for public transportation workers and passengers, and has been operating a guidance period for mandatory mask-wearing from the 29th of last month until the 5th of this month.
To alleviate the inconvenience for elderly people with mobility difficulties and pregnant women who do not have masks and cannot board public transportation, since the 3rd, all city buses (157 vehicles) have been stocked with 785 emergency masks (5 masks per bus).
Thermal cameras have been installed and are operating at Mokpo Station and the intercity bus terminal, hand sanitizers are always available inside city buses, and disinfection is carried out at least once daily.
A Mokpo City official stated, “Starting from the 6th, passengers will not be allowed to board city buses or taxis without wearing masks, so we strongly urge everyone to make mask-wearing a daily habit.”
Meanwhile, infection prevention education is being provided to bus and taxi workers, and mask-wearing mandates and COVID-19 prevention guidelines are being posted on bus information displays (161 units) at bus stops, terminals, and inside buses.
