[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Ki-hyun, a member of the Future United Party, proposed that the so-called 'media-prosecution collusion' allegations be investigated through a special prosecutor agreed upon by both ruling and opposition parties, rather than by the ruling party, opposition party, Chu Mi-ae, or Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the 4th, Kim said on Facebook, "At a time when the public's discomfort index is rising due to the already difficult economy, instead of increasing the irritation index further, let's reliably uncover the truth of this incident," making this suggestion.
He pointed out, "This clash incident, which began with the declaration of war by Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae against Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, is rather strange. We cannot dismiss suspicions that some conspiracy might be lurking behind it," adding, "It is hard to see the collusion between a reporter and a prosecution official as well as the elements of attempted coercion crime being met."
Kim stated, "Minister Chu preemptively assumed media-prosecution collusion despite unclear facts and claimed that 'various pieces of evidence supporting the suspicion have been presented.' However, according to the recordings, Prosecutor Han Dong-hoon clearly told the reporter investigating the lobbying allegations, 'I am not interested,'" and criticized, "Despite the ongoing investigation, Minister Chu violated relevant laws by ordering an inspection within the Ministry of Justice and breached the government's own public relations guidelines by informing the National Assembly and the media in detail about the investigation status."
He said, "The essence of this incident is a meticulously planned political operation and a national scandal aimed at covering up the massive ShillaJen financial fraud case, in which illegal funds may have flowed to ruling party figures, and at ousting Prosecutor General Yoon, who dared to challenge the living power with a sword," and questioned, "Otherwise, would the minister and the ruling party mobilize all forces to drive out the prosecutor general over mere simple suspicions unrelated to the people's livelihood?"
Meanwhile, the United Party, together with the People's Party, has been sharply criticizing Minister Chu.
