Finding Solutions for Revitalizing Rural Areas Through On-Site Activities Listening to Local Opinions
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 3rd that Assemblyman Jeong Gwangho was elected as the chairman of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Livestock Committee for the second half of the 11th term.
Chairman Jeong Gwangho entered the 11th Jeonnam Provincial Council after serving as a member of the 6th and 7th Shinan County Council and as the chairman in the second half of the 7th term.
In the provincial council, he has been active as a member of the Safety Construction and Firefighting Committee, the Special Budget and Accounts Committee, the Fisheries Policy Development Research Group, and the Urban Regeneration Research Group, carrying out legislative activities to improve the quality of life for residents.
Jeong, who is from Shinan, has worked for the development of the southwestern region by proposing motions such as the "Request for the Deregulation of the National Park for the Construction of Heuksan Airport" and the "Request for the Public Transportation of Coastal Maritime Traffic" to find solutions for regional development.
In particular, the "Request for the Enactment of a Special Act for Island Development to Promote Regional Balanced Development," proposed last year, urges the enactment of the "Special Act for Island Development," which will become a future growth engine for Jeonnam, coinciding with the designation of "Island Day" as a national memorial day, thereby accelerating the implementation of practical island development policies.
Chairman Jeong was recognized for such efforts for regional development and received the Presidential Award at the 2019 Democratic Peaceful Unification Chairman Commendation and the Korea Southwest Region Development Legislative Award last year.
Jeong Gwangho said, "I feel a heavy responsibility to lead the legislative activities in the agriculture and fisheries sector of Jeonnam, the largest agricultural and fisheries production area in the country, in the second half of the term. I plan to actively carry out field-centered legislative activities with fellow committee members to revitalize the relatively underdeveloped Jeonnam region and rural fishing villages," adding, "I ask for your interest and affection so that I can hear the valuable opinions of local residents in the future."
The Agriculture, Fisheries, and Livestock Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council is responsible for the affairs of the Agriculture, Livestock and Food Bureau, the Marine Fisheries Bureau, the Agricultural Technology Institute, and the Marine Fisheries Science Institute, which are related to the promotion of policies, research, and development for the safe production of agricultural and marine products in Jeonnam. It also reviews and approves an annual budget of about 1.5 trillion won.
Meanwhile, the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Livestock Committee for the second half of the term consists of a total of 10 members, including Chairman Jeong Gwangho, Vice Chairman Park Jongwon (Damyang 1), Seo Dongwook (Suncheon 3), Choi Myungsoo (Naju 2), Choi Byungyong (Yeosu 5), Jo Gwangyoung (Haenam 2), Kwak Taesu (Jangheung 2), Jang Seil (Yeonggwang 1), Lee Cheol (Wando 1), and Park Jinkwon (Goheung 1).
