Busan Gijang-gun, This Time Unveils the 'Ssalbottari'

Support for 'Eco-friendly Rice' to 3,000 Preschool Home Care Families
Measures Also Planned to Provide Educational Disaster Relief Funds for Out-of-School Youth

Busan Gijang-gun, This Time Unveils the 'Ssalbottari' Busan Gijang-gun Office. Gijang-gun has decided to send eco-friendly rice to families with preschool children.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan's Gijang-gun is distributing rice bundles to households with preschool children in the area.

The recipients are households of about 3,000 preschool children under home care residing in Gijang-gun and children attending childcare institutions in other regions. They will receive eco-friendly rice worth approximately 30,000 KRW.

Additionally, although the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education provided educational disaster relief funds to elementary, middle, and high school students, Gijang-gun has decided to prepare measures to provide educational disaster relief funds to out-of-school youth who were excluded from the support.

Gijang-gun had already converted the remaining meal and snack subsidies from childcare and educational institutions, which arose due to school delays caused by COVID-19, into eco-friendly rice and supported each household.

For children under home care and those attending childcare institutions in other regions, eco-friendly rice will be provided using a supplementary budget of 100 million KRW secured in the supplementary budget.

A Gijang-gun official stated, “The implementation period was adjusted to the second half of the year to prevent rice from spoiling during the rainy season, and since the eco-friendly rice is grown pesticide-free, storage and management are important.” He added, “We ask each household to refrigerate the rice immediately upon receipt.”

Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, is preparing measures through prior consultations with the county council to ensure that educational disaster relief funds of 100,000 KRW can also be provided to about 300 out-of-school youth. Mayor Oh said, “Let us do our best so that out-of-school youth can grow without feeling discriminated against.”
