[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The satisfaction level with the school support projects conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was found to be relatively high.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that, based on a survey conducted from the 22nd to the 26th of last month targeting 2,451 principals, vice principals, and administrative directors working at kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, and special schools, the average satisfaction score for the school support projects was 4.18 out of 5.
This survey was conducted on four major areas of school support projects responding to COVID-19. Satisfaction scores by area were as follows: 'Expansion of autonomy' 4.41 points, 'Reduction of workload' 4.31 points, 'Quarantine support' 4.18 points, and 'Remote class support' 3.94 points.
In response to the COVID-19 situation, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has implemented measures such as adjusting, reducing, or suspending targeted projects, expanding school autonomy by allowing principals to autonomously decide volunteer activity hours, workload reduction measures including prior review of official documents, exemption from mandatory air quality inspections in the first half of the year, expansion of single-person contract amounts, suspension of comprehensive audits, and quarantine support projects including provision of quarantine supplies, budget support for quarantine activities, and support for quarantine and health personnel.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education stated, "Based on the results of this survey, we will prioritize administrative efforts on school quarantine and remote class support activities to ensure students can safely continue their studies, and will continuously promote support to reduce workload and expand school autonomy so that schools can focus on their core educational activities."
