[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The innovation activities promoted by Hyundai Steel are showing tangible effects and becoming a driving force for enhancing corporate competitiveness.
On the 3rd, Hyundai Steel announced that the continuous rolling process (TCM) at the Suncheon plant, which has produced visible results through the company's innovation activity 'HIT (Hyundai steel Innovation Together),' has been certified as the 'No. 1 Innovation Landmark.'
Since last April, Hyundai Steel has been carrying out the 'HIT' campaign with the company-wide declaration under the slogan "The start of innovation begins with small improvements." The Innovation Landmark refers to an excellent unit process that has established a system to restore and maintain equipment performance to its original state at the time of installation through equipment robustness activities.
The 'HIT' campaign was launched with the judgment that the future of the equipment industry lies in securing profitability through equipment efficiency and equipment robustness, with all executives and employees participating in performance innovation, equipment robustness, and voluntary encouragement to overcome crises and create new growth engines.
Last year, the Suncheon plant, which had been conducting workplace environment improvement activities through the 'Equipment Restoration Movement,' has focused on improving equipment performance by selecting the TCM process as a 'model of equipment robustness' since the innovation campaign declaration in April.
The Suncheon plant has continuously maintained optimal conditions by improving the workplace environment and identifying and eliminating unreasonable factors that degrade equipment performance to enhance equipment performance.
Subsequently, even minute factors that could cause quality nonconformities were identified and improved, and quality defects caused by roll marks¹ that could occur due to the TCM process were improved, leading to its selection as the first Innovation Landmark.
At the certification ceremony held that day, Hyundai Steel President Andong-il said, "Seeing the equipment restored to its original state, I feel deeply moved as if I can see the collaboration and efforts that the executives and employees have carried out with one heart," and urged, "Let us overcome the difficult management crisis based on such innovation activities."
