Daejeon 64, Daegu 5, Seoul 3 Schools
Student and Staff Confirmed Cases Increase by 8 in One Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The number of schools that have suspended in-person classes has been steadily increasing since the 25th of last month.
The Ministry of Education announced that due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), 523 schools in 6 cities and provinces nationwide adjusted their in-person class schedules on the 3rd.
This accounts for about 2.5% of the 20,902 kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide. This is one more school than the previous day. Gwangju had the highest number with 438 schools, followed by 64 schools in Dong-gu, Daejeon, 5 schools in Daegu, and 3 schools in Seoul. These schools have switched to remote classes.
The number of students (7) and staff members (1) confirmed positive for COVID-19 also increased by 8 in one day. Since the phased return to in-person classes on May 20, the cumulative number of students confirmed positive for COVID-19 reached 39, and the cumulative number of staff members who tested positive reached 10 as of the previous day.
