KCTU Finalizes 'Tripartite Agreement to Overcome COVID-19' at Delegate Conference

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) will hold an extraordinary delegate meeting to make a final decision on the 'Tripartite Agreement to Overcome the COVID-19 Crisis.'

On the 3rd, Kim Myung-hwan, chairman of the KCTU, announced after the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, which began the previous afternoon, failed to approve the tripartite agreement, "I will push to convene an extraordinary delegate meeting under the authority of the chairman according to the KCTU regulations."

The delegate meeting is the decision-making body following the general assembly of members within the KCTU. It is composed of delegates elected at a ratio of one delegate per 500 members. The regular delegate meeting held by the KCTU in February had about 1,400 members in attendance. Due to COVID-19 and other factors, this delegate meeting is expected to be held online.

Earlier, from the 29th of last month, the KCTU held a two-day Central Executive Committee meeting to discuss the approval of the tripartite agreement. However, hardliners within the KCTU opposed the agreement, preventing a conclusion from being reached.
