[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] YouTuber Song Dae-ik (27), who claimed 'delivery worker eat-and-run' in his YouTube channel video, has admitted to fabrication.
On the 1st, Song Dae-ik said in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, "The video in question is entirely staged, and I sincerely apologize to the brand representatives and store owners who were harmed by my video."
He added, "There is no excuse; this happened solely because of my greed," and "I am sorry for disappointing viewers by making the video with a lighthearted attitude."
Earlier, the controversy over Song Dae-ik's fabricated broadcast arose on the 28th of last month when he uploaded a video claiming, "The delivered food arrived, but someone took out some of the contents." Song Dae-ik is a YouTuber who uploads mukbang and daily life videos, with 1.34 million subscribers.
In the video, he showed partially eaten chicken and a pizza missing two slices, saying, "The delivery worker ate part of the chicken and pizza." The video also included footage of him calling the store to demand a refund.
However, suspicions of fabrication were raised after the broadcast. The next day, another YouTuber, Jung Bae-woo, uploaded a video stating, "I spoke directly with the store owners, and they said this could never have happened," and "When I contacted the headquarters, I was told that Song Dae-ik's actions constitute serious defamation and could cause significant damage to the store's operations."
Although the brand name was not revealed in Song Dae-ik's video, it was disclosed through Jung Bae-woo that the company harmed by the fabricated video was 'Pizza Nara Chicken Gongju.' The company revealed in Jung Bae-woo's broadcast, "As of now, after checking the store, this is not true," and "We express regret over the malicious slander against innocent franchisees."
Pizza Nara Chicken Gongju plans to take legal action against Song Dae-ik. In a notice posted on the official website, the company stated, "After checking stores nationwide, Song Dae-ik's claims have been confirmed to be groundless," and "At a time when everyone is struggling to overcome difficult circumstances, the headquarters is preparing strong civil and criminal legal responses regarding the damage caused to franchisees nationwide."
