[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] The government has initiated the second phase designation of national research infrastructure to strengthen the competitiveness of materials, parts, and equipment in South Korea. On the 2nd, the Ministry of Science and ICT held the 5th Materials, Parts, and Equipment (SoBuJang) Technology Special Committee meeting and approved the 'National Research Infrastructure (3N) Phase 2 Designation (Plan)'.
The resolution includes the Ministry of Science and ICT's follow-up measures to the SoBuJang R&D investment strategy and innovation plan, designating 13 National Research Laboratories (N-LAB), 5 National Research Facilities (N-Facility), and 15 National Research Teams (N-TEAM) in the second phase to strengthen technological capabilities and support industrial sites. In the first phase, 12 National Research Laboratories and 6 National Research Facilities were designated.
Private Committee Chair Kim Sang-sik said, "This designation has laid the foundation to consolidate research capabilities in the SoBuJang field," adding, "we hope it will establish itself as infrastructure that contributes to strengthening SoBuJang self-reliance capabilities by closely linking with industrial sites going forward."
Kim Sung-soo, Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters, said, "Through the second phase designation of national research infrastructure, we expect the successful establishment of research infrastructure in the SoBuJang field and effective support for industrial sites."
