529 Billion KRW Investment Executed with Domestic and Overseas VCs for 6 Fintech Companies in the First Half
[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the '2nd Korea Fintech Week' held online attracted more than 170,000 visitors within a month of its opening. They showed high interest with a cumulative 1.1 million page views.
According to the Financial Services Commission on the 2nd, more than 170,000 people visited the online Korea Fintech Week 2020 held on May 28, viewing over 1.1 million pages cumulatively within a month of its opening. This event involved financial authorities such as the Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service, domestic and international financial companies, and fintech firms, with a total of 150 online booths exhibited.
During this period, fintech companies provided recruitment information to students and job seekers, and so far, 1,106 people have applied to fintech companies participating in the recruitment hall through the expo homepage and individual company recruitment procedures. The Financial Services Commission stated that up to 82 people are expected to be hired through individual recruitment processes at 21 fintech companies, including Global Money Express, Naver Financial, Rainist (Bank Salad), Real Identity, Money Station, Mofin, and Viva Republica (Toss).
The Financial Services Commission plans to continuously support job matching between fintech companies and prospective employees through fintech job matching support projects and fintech professional workforce training projects in collaboration with the Korea Fintech Support Center.
Additionally, Korea Growth Finance, the operator of the Fintech Innovation Fund, distributed IR materials of about 30 fintech companies seeking investment to 137 venture capitalists (VCs) online and arranged one-on-one meetings through the 'Investment Presentation Booth.' Through this, investments totaling 52.9 billion KRW were executed for six fintech companies in cooperation with domestic and international VCs during the first half of the year. The Financial Services Commission plans to actively support investment funds for fintech companies through the prompt execution of the Fintech Innovation Fund in the future.
A Financial Services Commission official said, "While stably operating the ongoing online Korea Fintech Week 2020 until the end of the year, we plan to steadily prepare for the 3rd Korea Fintech Week to be held in the last week of May next year based on the achievements so far."
Meanwhile, the Financial Services Commission revealed that interviews and survey results from visitors showed a high overall satisfaction level with this online expo. According to the survey results, visitors responded that this expo was a useful opportunity to comprehensively learn about fintech companies. In particular, they expressed satisfaction with the fact that it was not restricted by time and space.
