[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Construction company employee: "Hey AI, please schedule the construction of a 400MW power plant in Texas, USA."
AI: "Please specify the project owner and contract method."
Construction company employee: "The turbine is supplied by OO supplier, and the generator is supplied by OO supplier."
AI: "The requested schedule is a total of 30 months, which sufficiently ensures construction safety."
AI experts from SK Group, who aspire to realize such conversations in reality, gathered in one place. The purpose is to innovate the way of working through AI at the workplace just as AI devices are used routinely at home, and to explore ways to provide greater economic and social value to customers through this.
On the 2nd, the SK Supex Council ICT Committee announced that it held the second 'SK Group AI Practitioners Online Workshop: Make Useable AI' the previous day. This workshop, held to share knowledge and know-how among AI practitioners within the group including SK Telecom and SK Hynix and to enhance professional capabilities, was held online this year considering social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. About 300 general members also attended via SK Group’s internal education platform, mySUNI.
At the workshop held at Grand Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul, AI practitioners from six affiliated companies including SK Hynix, SKC, SK Magic, SK Construction, SK Planet, and SK Holdings C&C participated as case presenters. The presentations were broadcast live online. Participants engaged in heated discussions on how to create practical and effective AI that can be utilized in actual work.
SK Magic presented the 'Magic-Eye' project, which uses AI to detect rental contracts that are mistakenly or intentionally incorrectly made, minimizing damage to the company and customers. Actual test results showed that it detected abnormal contracts with more than nine times higher accuracy compared to the previous method relying on the intuition of past staff.
SK Hynix presented a case of reducing defect rates by accumulating digital images of defective cases in the semiconductor wafer contamination process and applying AI. SK Construction shared improvements in construction material procurement scheduling using AI.
The workshop concluded with a panel discussion. Participants from SK Telecom and others shared various problems and difficulties encountered when applying AI in actual work situations, and exchanged opinions on how to proceed with work to enhance the value provided to the company and customers through AI.
An ICT Committee official said, "To maximize the use of AI, a broad perspective considering everything from company-level strategies to the field of on-site practitioners actually using AI is necessary," and emphasized, "SK will strive further to create AI that generates value satisfying companies, customers, and society alike."
