[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Recall measures will be taken for 110,000 vehicles across 10 models including the GV80 and Tivoli.
On the 2nd, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that recalls will be conducted for a total of 109,212 vehicles across 10 models manufactured or imported and sold by Hyundai Motor Company, SsangYong Motor, Mercedes-Benz Korea, Porsche Korea, Honda Korea, and Hanbul Motors due to manufacturing defects.
Among them, 15,997 units of the GV80 (JX1) manufactured and sold by Hyundai Motor Company were found to have fuel sloshing issues when stopped on an incline. In this case, the driving range displayed on the instrument panel is excessively high, and if driving according to the displayed range, there is a possibility of the engine stalling due to fuel shortage, prompting the recall. These vehicles can receive a free software update at Hyundai Motor’s direct service centers and Bluehands starting from the 6th.
For SsangYong Motor’s Tivoli (diesel) and Korando (diesel), totaling 88,664 units across two models, insufficient durability of the fuel supply hose was discovered. Fine cracks appeared on the inner and outer surfaces of the hose, raising the possibility of fire caused by fuel leakage. SsangYong Motor has been conducting free replacement of improved parts through its maintenance network since the 30th of last month.
Among 3,150 units of four models including the S560 4MATIC imported and sold by Mercedes-Benz Korea, insufficient durability of the engine oil cap was found. Engine oil leaks through the cap, which may cause engine damage and affect driving. Mercedes-Benz Korea will provide free additional parts installation at official service centers starting from the 3rd.
For 737 units of the Cayenne (9YA) imported and sold by Porsche Korea, insufficient durability of the transmission oil pipe was identified, causing oil leakage and potential malfunction of the transmission. Porsche Korea will offer free inspection and replacement with improved parts through official dealerships starting from the 3rd.
Honda Korea’s Accord, totaling 608 units, was found to have a defect in a component (impeller) inside the fuel pump. The fuel pump may not operate properly, leading to the possibility of the engine stalling while driving. These vehicles will receive free replacement of improved parts at Honda Korea’s official dealerships starting from the 13th.
For 56 units of the DS3 Crossback 1.5 BlueHDi by Hanbul Motors, a defect was found in the part securing the wiring harness of the electronic control unit (ECU), causing the wiring to detach from the support and the insulation to be damaged, which may result in short circuits and engine stalling. Hanbul Motors will conduct free repairs to secure the parts at official dealerships starting from the 2nd.
Regarding this recall, each manufacturer will notify vehicle owners of the correction methods via mail and mobile text messages. If owners have repaired the defect at their own expense before the recall, they can apply for compensation for repair costs from the manufacturer.
