Choe Kang-wook, Leader of the Open Democratic Party, Gives Lecture on 'Prosecutorial Reform' in Jeonju

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Geon-ju] Choi Kang-wook, the leader of the Open Democratic Party, held a 'Citizen Law School' for the citizens of Jeonju on the 1st, giving a lecture on the necessity of prosecutorial reform and the differences before and after democratization for the establishment of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.

At this event, Representative Choi began his lecture by asking citizens about the differences between democratic and military regimes and emphasizing the importance of democratization.

Choi explained, "The concept and importance of democratization lie in whether the ruling government exerts physical power over citizens and the people, and whether it uses or refrains from using physical violence and intimidation through investigative agencies."

He stated that while the Blue House and government organizations change depending on the ruling government, the prosecution organization has been the only one that has not changed so far, raising his voice by saying, "If civic awareness does not change, the deep-rooted evils and roots of military dictatorship that must be cleared cannot be completely eliminated."

He then addressed the recently highlighted relationship between Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, pointing out, "Most media outlets are mistakenly reporting it as a 'conflict' rather than 'insubordination.'"

Representative Choi said, "In our country, where prosecutors are structured so that they are not punished no matter how wrong they are, the 'power of awakened citizens' must understand why the establishment of the Corruption Investigation Office is necessary and why the prosecution must be reformed," adding, "The reason the public does not know about these issues is that the media does not report on them."
