'Seoul Station Random Assault' Man in His 30s Found to Be a Repeat Offender... 6 Additional Victims Confirmed

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] It has been confirmed that a man in his 30s who committed the 'Seoul Station random assault' incident had committed more random assault crimes.

Seoul Dongjak Police Station announced on the 1st that they investigated additional crimes of Lee Mo (32), who was arrested by the railway police on charges of assault for hitting the face of a woman in her 30s, whom he did not know, on the second floor of Seoul Station in May, causing serious injuries and fleeing, and sent him to the prosecution on charges of habitual assault.

According to the police, Lee was found to have six more assault charges, including verbally abusing and spitting at a woman waiting at a crosswalk signal in February this year, and assaulting a neighboring woman in May. Among the victims of the additional crimes, four were women and two were men.

During the police investigation, Lee is reported to have admitted most of the charges.

The 'Seoul Station random assault' incident became known after the victim's family posted about it on social networking services (SNS), sparking controversy over 'misogynistic crimes.'

The police applied twice for an arrest warrant for Lee, but the court dismissed both requests, citing the illegality of the emergency arrest itself and lack of concerns about flight or evidence destruction, so Lee has been under investigation without detention.
