On the 2nd Anniversary of the 7th Local Government, Visiting Screening Clinics Early Morning to Encourage Staff... - Progressing 71 Pledge Projects Toward a Happier Gangdong, 70.4% Pledge Fulfillment Rate... Key Policies Advancing Including Subway Extension, Godeok Biz Valley Development, and Free School Uniform Support
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, visited the screening clinic and dementia relief center early in the morning on the first day of the second year of the 7th local government administration on the 1st.
This was to encourage the field workers who have been working hard day after day in response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
First, at 8:30 a.m. on the same day, as part of efforts to revive the local economy weakened by COVID-19, he delivered rice cakes and tea purchased from a traditional market to all employees who have worked together for the residents of Gangdong-gu over the past two years, encouraging them.
Afterwards, he immediately visited the screening clinic and dementia support center to hold a meeting with tea time with the medical staff and nurses working hard on site.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the district office has been proactively responding with all employees' efforts, including installing safety partitions at the on-site screening clinics and civil service desks. In particular, the production of cloth masks, which started first in Gangdong-gu, has paved the way for a global mask-making movement beyond Korea.
At the meeting, Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "The past two years have been a time of relentless effort to create a 'Happy Gangdong Together.' I will never forget the sweat of the employees who have steadfastly walked this path with me. I am confident that if we unite our hearts as we do now, we will surely overcome COVID-19. I will always actively carry out administration that residents can empathize with and be satisfied with, just as I did at the beginning."
Then, at 2:30 p.m., the opening ceremony of the Gangil 2 District Community Facility, a community hub space available to all generations from infants to children, the disabled, and local residents, was held.
Since taking office, he has consistently stated his commitment to building a city where no neighbors are neglected or overlooked, a city convenient and equal for all classes, and this complex space has opened accordingly.
Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "Since the Gangil 2 District Community Facility houses five facilities in one building, I hope it will be used as a complex community space for residents' happiness that can break down the barriers between generations and social classes."
At 4:30 p.m., a 'Performance and Future' report meeting was held in the large auditorium on the 5th floor of the district office to mark the 2nd anniversary of the 7th local government administration. About 70 residents, including the Gangdong-gu Pledge Fulfillment Evaluation Group and the Policy Advisory Committee, attended the meeting, where the mayor briefed on policies by sector and projects by region, followed by a discussion with residents.
Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, received the highest grade (SA) in the nationwide basic local government pledge fulfillment and information disclosure evaluation hosted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters last May, and as of the second quarter of 2020, showed a pledge fulfillment rate of 70.4%, being recognized as a local government head who faithfully keeps promises.
In external evaluations, he has won 10 ministerial-level or higher awards in 2019, showing the best performance in the past five years.
In addition, major district projects such as ▲extension of subway lines 5, 8, and 9 ▲creation of Godeok Biz Valley ▲establishment of Labor Rights Center and Mobile Worker Support Center ▲free provision of middle and high school uniforms ▲Amsa Green Road, Amsa History Park, and other policies covering economy, welfare, and environment are progressing smoothly.
Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "Gangdong-gu is expected to have a population of 550,000 by 2023 due to large-scale reconstruction projects. As the population increases, various demands will arise, so we are working to expand overall transportation, cultural, and economic infrastructure. We will not be satisfied with the achievements of the past two years and will continue to strive until all residents are satisfied, repaying with valuable results."
