[Asia Economy (Guri) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Guri Cultural Foundation officially launched on the 1st.
The Guri Cultural Foundation will operate the Art Hall, develop cultural and artistic policies, and play a role in revitalizing local culture through cultural and artistic creation and dissemination, as well as discovering cultural resources and professionals.
The foundation has 19 employees, including the CEO, working in four teams: management support, cultural projects, stage technology, and cultural promotion. The foundation plans to increase its staff to 27.
The CEO, Jo Young-sook, former head of the Guri branch of the Korea Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations, was appointed through an open recruitment in March. Thirteen part-time directors and one part-time auditor were also selected.
The chairman of the foundation's board is An Seung-nam, mayor of Guri.
The city of Guri contributed 1.67 billion KRW to establish the cultural foundation. Originally, 3.6 billion KRW was planned, but the contribution was reduced due to cuts in event expenses in response to COVID-19.
The Guri Art Hall, which had been directly operated by the city, was incorporated into the foundation for more efficient and professional management.
The Guri Art Hall was built next to City Hall on a 23,449㎡ site with a total floor area of 10,435㎡, including one basement floor and four above-ground floors, at a cost of 39.5 billion KRW, and opened in 2013.
The city expects that with the launch of the cultural foundation, it will systematically establish local cultural and artistic policies and provide high-quality cultural and artistic programs.
The city plans to hold the launch ceremony of the Guri Cultural Foundation around August to September, considering COVID-19 and other factors.
