[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the morning of the 1st, marking the 2nd anniversary of the 7th term of the elected government, Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, visited the Gwanak-gu Public Health Center's screening clinic at 9 a.m. and handed a single red rose to the medical staff and public officials.

This was to support and encourage the medical staff and employees who have been exhausted and fatigued due to prolonged COVID-19 prevention work on the front lines.

While handing over the flowers, Mayor Park said, “As the intense heat begins in earnest, I expect the difficulties at the quarantine sites to increase. Above all, please prioritize your health and unite as one to overcome this crisis by putting in just a little more effort.”

On this day, Mayor Park also gave each employee of Gwanak-gu Office a red rose and a letter of encouragement. The roses were purchased from local flower farms to help small business owners struggling due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Recently, as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the area has rapidly increased, all previously planned 2nd anniversary commemorative visits to livelihood sites were canceled.

Instead, the first schedule began with thorough disinfection activities along the commute from home to the office with employees, including disinfecting subway station handrails, bicycle racks, public phone booths, and alleyway shops.

Mayor Park said, “I am grateful to the employees who have faithfully carried out their duties in various fields of district administration over the past two years,” and delivered a message of encouragement, “I hope the 1,583 red roses will be a special gift to soothe the bodies and minds tired from COVID-19.”

Under the principles of innovation, communication, and cooperation, the 7th term Gwanak-gu government, which promised the realization of ‘Together, the Best Gwanak-gu,’ has achieved great results in various areas such as revitalizing the local economy, resident communication, culture, transportation, and environment over the past two years.

In particular, various startup infrastructures have been expanded to create a startup valley around Nakseongdae-dong and Daehak-dong, and in cooperation with Seoul National University, a 10 billion KRW university campus town project is being newly promoted. The 8 billion KRW Starlight Sinsari Commercial Renaissance project to revitalize the commercial district around Sillim Station will also begin in earnest this year.

Additionally, Mayor Park established ‘Gwanakcheong (聽),’ an open mayor’s office on the first floor of the district office building, as the first completed pledge project of the 7th term. He meets residents every Tuesday and Thursday to listen to district administration proposals and directly receive civil complaints, earning favorable evaluations from external organizations.

Furthermore, clear achievements have been made in implementing life-centered policies to create a happy and livable city for 500,000 Gwanak-gu residents, including the restoration project of Dorimcheon waterfront space, branding of Kang Gam-chan city, youth policy promotion, and the establishment of women-friendly and child-friendly cities.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “The many changes and developments in district administration over the past two years were possible thanks to the warm interest and active participation of the residents,” and added, “Just as seeds planted in well-prepared soil bloom into abundant fruits and flowers, I will do my best in the remaining term to ensure that promises made to residents bear fruit one by one.”
