[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Ki-woon] In 2020, four islands of Sinan-gun were selected among the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘33 Islands to Visit During Vacation Season.’

According to Sinan-gun on the 1st, four islands were selected: the walking-friendly islands Banwol and Bakjido, the scenic island Jaeundo, the mysterious islands Gijeom and Soakdo, and the experiential island Jeungdo.

The walking-friendly islands Banwol and Bakjido are islands where a purple fragrance blooms. The bridges leading to the islands are purple, the flowers blooming on the islands are purple, and even the tableware used by residents is all purple, offering a unique experience of walking along a beautiful coastal trail while smelling the lavender scent.

Jaeundo, selected as the scenic island, is an island of healing and relaxation. It is attracting attention as a distinctive ‘premium walking travel course’ with ‘Baekgil Beach’ featuring exotic and beautiful sea views, Bungye Beach famous for its Yeoin Pine trees, and the Infinite Bridge, which connects islands with bridges symbolizing continuity and endless development.

The mysterious islands Gijeom and Soakdo transform into five islands when the tide rises, as the tidal road connecting the islands is submerged. They are known as the Korean Santiago, with the 12 Apostles Chapel pilgrimage trail.

Jeungdo, the experiential island, is the first Slow City designated in Asia, boasting pristine natural scenery. Visitors can see Taepyeong Salt Farm, the largest solar salt production site in Korea, and the clean mudflat protected as a tidal wetland conservation area.

A Sinan-gun official said, “With the recent opening of the Cheonsa Bridge and the Imja Bridge scheduled to open next year, it is becoming easier for tourists to visit,” adding, “We will do our best to realize the era of 5 million tourists as soon as possible.”
