[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The National Pension Service announced that starting from the 1st, it will launch a pilot project called 'The Haengbok Dream' to support the cost of issuing work ability evaluation medical certificates for registered disabled persons among basic livelihood security recipients.
This project addresses the issue where basic livelihood security recipients often fail to receive hospital medical certificates in a timely manner due to economic burdens, resulting in exclusion from basic livelihood security or loss of benefits.
The support targets applicants for work ability evaluation who are registered as 'persons with disabilities who are not severely disabled' under the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities. They can apply to the relevant local government office (the respective community service center) for reimbursement of costs incurred in issuing work ability evaluation medical certificates and medical records.
If applied for by December 31, applicants can receive support of up to 100,000 KRW per person annually for expenses incurred this year.
'The Haengbok Dream' was promoted through cooperation among the National Pension Service, local governments, and the Jeonbuk Social Welfare Council to improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups.
This program is temporarily implemented only for the second half of this year and plans to support about 3,600 people with a total of 32 million KRW. The funding is sourced from the social contribution fund accumulated through the issuance of National Pension cards.
Park Jeong-bae, Acting Director, stated, "We expect this support project to alleviate the economic burden on basic livelihood security recipients," and added, "The Service will continue to fulfill its social responsibility with a sense of mission as a specialized institution for disability welfare services."
