7 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed Overnight in Gwangju... 23 Cases Reported Over Five Days

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the Gwangju area increased by 7 overnight. Among them, 6 are known to be contacts of existing confirmed cases, and 1 person's infection route is being investigated.


According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 1st, the total cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Gwangju is 56. Nearly half, 23 cases, have occurred in the five days since the 34th confirmed case was reported on the 26th, raising tension in the local community.


The 50th confirmed case, a woman in her 60s residing in Jang-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju, experienced fever and chills and underwent a COVID-19 test on the 30th. She was confirmed positive at the Gwangju Health and Environment Research Institute around 10:30 p.m. the same day. The infection route is currently under investigation.


The 51st confirmed case is a man in his 50s living in Wolgye-dong, Gwangsan-gu, who had contact with the 43rd confirmed case. It was confirmed that he visited the Kumyang Officetel in Dong-gu, known as the office of a door-to-door sales company, on the 25th of last month.


The 52nd, 53rd, 54th, and 55th confirmed cases are all contacts of the 45th case and traveled together to Jeju Island from the 22nd to the 24th.


The 56th confirmed case, a man in his 70s residing in Duam-dong, Buk-gu, was confirmed to have had contact with the 43rd case at the Kumyang Officetel in Dong-gu.


Currently, among the 23 confirmed cases that have occurred since the 26th of last month, 22 are confirmed to be community infections excluding one overseas entrant (the 38th case), heightening tension among health authorities and the local community.


Health authorities are conducting disinfection of related facilities and focusing on identifying detailed movement paths and contacts of the confirmed cases.
