Eliminating Social Distancing Blind Spots at All Logistics Centers and Delivery Camps Nationwide for Employee Safety
Reducing Commuter Bus Capacity to Less Than Half at Logistics Centers... Doubling the Number of Commute Buses
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang announced on the 1st that it is conducting an "ultra-high-intensity social distancing campaign" at all its workplaces nationwide, including delivery camps and logistics centers, to prevent COVID-19 and ensure the safety of on-site workers.
Coupang's "ultra-high-intensity social distancing campaign" is being implemented at all Coupang workplaces, including Rocket Delivery centers nationwide such as logistics centers and delivery camps, as well as the Jamsil office. This is to identify social distancing blind spots in employee workspaces and proactively eliminate factors that pose safety risks. Coupang explained that it intends to take strong measures in all areas, even if considered excessive, in response to COVID-19.
First, the work process was improved to prevent multiple employees from gathering in one place. This measure aims to block any possibility of contact during work. Coupangmen nationwide go directly to their individually assigned delivery vehicles upon arriving at the delivery camp without stopping by the office. Since they load the products assigned to their designated vehicles and immediately start delivery, there is no contact with colleagues. Additionally, until the COVID-19 risk ends, all changing rooms and smoking rooms at delivery camps nationwide have been temporarily closed to minimize spaces where employees can gather.
Logistics centers are also making every effort to strengthen social distancing among employees. Coupang is investing in facilities and expanding manpower to ensure that logistics center employees can practice social distancing as much as possible from the moment they arrive until they leave work. The number of shuttle buses commuting to and from logistics centers has been roughly doubled, and acrylic partitions have been installed in all cafeterias. Strict social distancing is also enforced in smoking areas and break rooms. Furthermore, QR codes are used for boarding and alighting shuttle buses and for entering and leaving workplaces to manage temperature and health records, enabling rapid tracking of movements in case of suspected COVID-19 cases.
In addition, Coupang provides all employees with masks, hand sanitizers, and gloves, and measures their temperature more than twice daily to reduce infection risk and ensure safety. Myungjoo Ko, Head of Coupang’s Human Resources Division, said, "We are doing our best to completely eliminate social distancing blind spots among employees at all Coupang workplaces," adding, "We will do everything we can to reduce infection risks for employees and protect customer safety."
