[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Samsung SDI has declared its commitment to becoming a 'company centered on ultra-gap technology' as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
On the 1st, Samsung SDI held the 'Samsung SDI 50th Anniversary Ceremony' at its Giheung plant, attended by about 100 executives and employees, including President Jeon Young-hyun.
The 50th anniversary celebration began with a congratulatory cake cutting by the management and employee representatives, followed by awards for outstanding employees, viewing of the 50th anniversary commemorative video, and the anniversary speech.
Despite it being the 50th anniversary, the event was conducted calmly considering the COVID-19 pandemic. Only minimal personnel attended, maintaining more than 1 meter distance between seats, with temperature checks, hand sanitizing, and mask-wearing to ensure a 'safe ceremony.' Employees watched the ceremony on TV.
In his anniversary speech, President Jeon stated, "Let us create a new 50 years centered on ultra-gap technology."
President Jeon presented three execution tasks to build the 'new 50 years': ▲ securing ultra-gap technology ▲ establishing a first-class organizational culture ▲ enhancing social responsibility.
President Jeon first emphasized, "Securing ultra-gap technology based on the highest quality and safety is essential to becoming a technology-centered top-tier company," adding, "We must secure related technologies with next-generation and even next-next-generation batteries in mind." He stressed placing the highest value on technology and leading the market through technology in the 'new 50 years.'
Next, he urged, "To advance as an ultra-gap technology company, the organizational culture must also be first-class," and encouraged building an autonomous and creative organizational culture that collaborates and communicates with an open mind.
Finally, President Jeon emphasized, "We must build trust through social responsibility beyond compliance management," stating, "Creating a healthy industrial ecosystem through co-growth with partner companies, as well as generating energy that warms society by all employees, will make us a trusted and respected company."
To mark the 50th anniversary, about 10,000 employees across six domestic plants participated in a month-long volunteer festival campaign starting from the 1st of last month. This year, the 'untact' concept was introduced to promote social contribution activities that can be conducted without direct contact between people.
A representative activity is 'Dream Walking,' a fundraising event through walking. Funds are accumulated based on the number of steps taken, and Samsung SDI employees participating in Dream Walking walked approximately 1.2 billion steps over the month. Samsung SDI plans to use the raised funds to create school forests so that elementary school students in nearby schools can attend classes in cleaner air.
In addition, Samsung SDI carried out various social contribution activities such as 'Hands-on Relay,' which involves donating items like educational books and canvas art.
