[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] On the 30th of last month, when record-breaking heavy rain fell in the Yeongdong region of Gangwon, a man in his 20s with an intellectual disability went missing, and the police and fire authorities have been searching for him for two days.
According to Gangneung Fire Station, at around 3:07 p.m. that day, a report was received that A (27), who has an intellectual disability, went missing in the Yeongok-myeon area of Gangneung-si, Gangwon.
The police and fire authorities deployed about 30 search personnel and reportedly secured part of A's movements from CCTV footage in a specific section.
The police have determined that A left his home at around 10 a.m. that day and are not ruling out the possibility that he got lost in the heavy rain.
The search is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. on the 1st.
Meanwhile, the rainfall in Gangneung from midnight to 3 p.m. on the 30th was 206 mm, the highest amount of rainfall recorded in a single day in June since weather observations began in the area in 1911.
