[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The police have forwarded to the prosecution with a non-prosecution opinion regarding Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Nam-guk and broadcasting officials who appeared on a paid podcast broadcast that sparked controversy over sexually derogatory remarks.
On the 1st, the Seoul Seodaemun Police Station announced that it judged there was no evidence against lawmaker Kim and podcast production representative Lee Dong-hyung, CEO of Mir Media Strategy Institute, and co-host lawyer Park Ji-hoon, among others related to the podcast "Three Yeongojeon," and forwarded the case to the prosecution with a non-prosecution opinion.
The police found it difficult to apply charges of violating the Youth Protection Act to the broadcast in question.
Earlier, the Judicial Examination Preparation Group (Sajunmo) filed a complaint with the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office in April against lawmaker Kim and others on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc.
Sajunmo accused lawmaker Kim and the podcast co-hosts of "creating an adult paid broadcast without marking it as 'harmful media for youth,' allowing minors to listen by paying 500 won per episode," and filed a complaint with the Western District Prosecutors' Office for this reason.
