Creating a Comfortable and Safe Indoor Environment: Selecting 11 Excellent Facilities to Prevent Environmental Diseases and Protect Residents' Health... Targeting Facilities with Indoor Air Quality Measurements Within Standard Range Last Year for Pollution Assessment and On-Site Evaluation
Indoor Air Quality Management Excellence Facility Certification Ceremony(June 30, 2020, Jongno-gu Office Planning Situation Room)
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) held an indoor air quality management excellence facility certification ceremony on June 30 at the district office’s planning situation room, presenting certificates of appreciation and excellence facility certification marks to a total of 11 locations including daycare centers, performance halls, and sports facilities.
Since the 5th local government administration, Jongno-gu has been striving to create a community with breathable air by improving fine dust and indoor air quality management.
This selection of excellent facilities is also part of that effort to create a pleasant and safe indoor environment, prevent environmental diseases, and protect the health of residents.
To this end, from May 12 to June 9, applications were accepted from facilities whose indoor air quality results measured last year were within the standard range, and pollution level measurements and on-site evaluations were conducted together with the Jongno-gu Environmental Monitoring Team.
Levels of indoor air pollutants such as fine dust, ultrafine dust, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide, as well as the operation status of ventilation and purification systems and air quality management practices were investigated and scored accordingly.
As a result, a total of 11 locations were selected as excellent facilities: six daycare centers including ▲ Andong Daycare Center ▲ Seoul National University Hospital Daycare Center ▲ Gahoe Daycare Center ▲ Children in Fairy Tales Daycare Center ▲ SGI Seoul Guarantee Daycare Center ▲ Dongsung Daycare Center; three performance halls including ▲ Daehakro Arts Theater Large and Small Theaters ▲ Yes24 Stage Halls 1, 2, and 3 ▲ Arko Arts Theater Small Theater; and two sports facilities including ▲ Body Balance ▲ Stay’s Bone Fitness.
Since starting a pilot project in 2010, Jongno-gu has continuously worked to improve air quality in small-scale facilities not covered by existing indoor air quality management laws.
Every year, the number of facilities subject to indoor air quality management is increased, and this year, air quality measurements are being conducted at about 520 locations throughout the district until December.
Facilities used by health-sensitive groups such as senior centers and daycare centers are visited once quarterly, while small-scale general facilities such as small theaters, billiard halls, and indoor golf ranges are visited once every six months. Using comprehensive measuring devices, ultrafine dust, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, temperature, and humidity are measured. Based on these results, the outcomes are posted at facility entrances, and one-on-one consulting is provided to guide appropriate management methods for each facility, including pollution source analysis, cleaning methods, and ventilation tips.
District Mayor Kim Young-jong stated, “Since 2010, Jongno-gu has consistently promoted not only indoor air quality management but also fine dust reduction policies,” adding, “We will continue to prioritize health, the foundation of a happy life, in administration and do our best to create a sustainable city where social and individual health harmonize, and a pleasant and safe community.”
