Samsung Electronics Launches Industry's Largest Capacity 4-bit SSD '870 QVO'

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it has launched the industry's largest capacity consumer 4-bit (QLC) SATA solid-state drive (SSD), the '870 QVO'.

The new '870 QVO series' consists of four models: 8TB (terabyte), 4TB, 2TB, and 1TB. It will be sequentially released in 40 countries worldwide, starting with South Korea and the United States, followed by Germany, China, and others.

4-bit NAND flash can store 4 bits of data per cell, enabling high-capacity storage at a reasonable price.

Samsung Electronics was the first in the industry to launch the '860 QVO' series based on 4-bit NAND flash in 2018. According to the company, this product rapidly expanded the consumer high-capacity SSD market by achieving industry-leading performance at an affordable price.

The new '870 QVO series' not only doubles the capacity but also improves speed to approach the limits of the SATA interface, providing an optimal solution for consumers who want high-capacity and high-performance computing environments.

With Intelligent Turbo Write technology, sequential read and write speeds have been improved to 560MB/s and 530MB/s respectively, and random read speed has also been increased by 13% to 98K IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second), enabling faster booting, multitasking, and a computing environment optimized for gaming.

The 8TB model offers a maximum total bytes written (TBW) of up to 2880TB and a warranty period of up to 3 years.

Additionally, the newly upgraded 'Magician 6' software enhances user convenience with an intuitive user interface and adds various features such as initializing encrypted products and detecting and correcting errors in advance.
