"Reorganized as Premium Cable TV" LG HelloVision Expands HelloTV Channels


[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG HelloVision is expanding and reorganizing the channel lineup of its cable TV service HelloTV, and plans to fully promote a premium cable TV strategy based on this.


On the 1st, Jang Sang-gyu, Executive Director of LG HelloVision Home Business Group, stated, “We put a lot of effort into the reorganization to strengthen content competitiveness and enhance customer convenience,” adding, “With 247 channels, full HD quality, premium content services, and a high-quality broadcasting service combining the best software in paid broadcasting with new hardware to be introduced in the second half of the year, we will accelerate the execution of our premium cable TV strategy.”


This regular reorganization focused on △significant expansion of new channels △win-win cooperation with individual and small/mid-sized PP (Program Providers) △channel arrangement by genre. First, HelloTV will add 21 new channels, providing up to 247 channels in total. Notably, over 90% of the newly added channels are individual and small/mid-sized PPs. Opportunities were given to 19 individual and small/mid-sized PPs with competitiveness and expertise. This is a strategic move to secure content diversity and enhance customer satisfaction in paid broadcasting through win-win development with PPs. LG HelloVision’s efforts for mutual growth are expected to strengthen the establishment of a virtuous cycle ecosystem for PPs.


Additionally, channels were arranged by genre to improve viewing convenience. Channels were classified by genre, and customer viewing patterns were analyzed to place related and similar genres consecutively, such as movies-foreign dramas, classic dramas-adult ballads, sports-outdoor. This allows customers to reduce channel zapping (switching channels) and quickly find the channels they want. Intuitive channel numbers were assigned to genres with distinct viewer demographics, such as movies (50s), seniors (90s), sports (100s), kids (200s), and foreign (250s), thereby enhancing channel accessibility.


LG HelloVision will actively promote its premium cable TV strategy based on strong product competitiveness. It has secured unrivaled content power by offering differentiated content services such as Netflix, YouTube, and Idleunara, along with more than 10 channels above the industry average in paid broadcasting. In the second half of the year, it plans to combine advanced hardware as well. Through this, the company aims to solidify its leading position in the industry and achieve both qualitative and quantitative growth of broadcasting subscribers simultaneously.
