[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour has canceled the Canadian Pacific (CP) Women's Open.
The LPGA Tour office announced on the 1st (Korean time), "The CP Women's Open, scheduled to open in September, will not be held this year," adding, "It is planned to be held again on August 26 next year." They explained, "The reason for the cancellation is due to government restrictions on cross-border movement and self-quarantine requirements caused by the COVID-19 pandemic." The tournament was scheduled to take place over four days from September 3 at the Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, Canada.
The defending champion is 'Number 1' Ko Jin-young (25). Commissioner Mike Whan said, "The CP Women's Open is a tournament we all want to participate in," and added, "It is unfortunate that we cannot hold Canada's national title event." The LPGA Tour has suspended its 2020 season schedule since the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open in February. It will resume with the Drive On Championship, starting on the 31st at Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio, USA.
