Geumcheon-gu to Implement Universal Design Ordinance Starting July

Application of Designs Considering Various Social Strata in Public Facilities...Promoting Universal Design in Private Facilities and Society...Mandates for District Heads, Basic Plans, Pilot Projects, Committees, and Resident Participation Specified

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) has enacted the 'Universal Design Ordinance' to ensure that all residents can live safely and comfortably in a universal living environment, which will be implemented starting in July.

'Universal Design' refers to design for urban environments that considers various groups regardless of age, gender, disability, nationality, or cultural background.

This ordinance was established to apply universal design to public facilities created by the district and to encourage the application of design to various private facilities, enabling all residents to live in a safer and more comfortable environment.

The ordinance stipulates the 'Mayor's obligation' to expand universal design within the region, matters related to the 'establishment of basic plans and guidelines,' 'implementation of universal design pilot projects,' 'installation and review of committees,' and 'cooperation with related organizations and commendations.'

Additionally, residents are encouraged to actively participate in policies and projects related to universal design conducted by the district, allowing their opinions to be actively reflected.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "Based on the newly enacted Geumcheon-gu Universal Design Ordinance, we will apply universal design not only to public facilities but also to private facilities and society as a whole, so that all residents can live in a safe and convenient environment."
