[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the U.S. National Institutes of Health, predicted on the 30th (local time) that the number of new daily COVID-19 cases in the United States could soar to 100,000.
Director Fauci appeared at a Senate hearing that day and said, "We are currently seeing about 40,000 new cases per day, but if we do not reverse the current situation, I would not be surprised if the daily (new COVID-19 cases) rise to 100,000."
Recently, more than 40,000 new COVID-19 infections have been reported daily in the United States. If Fauci's prediction is accurate, it means he is considering the possibility of more than double the current number of infections. According to Johns Hopkins University data, the cumulative number of COVID-19 infections in the U.S. has reached 2.61 million.
Fauci also stated, "Clearly, we are not fully in control right now," adding, "We will continue to be in great trouble, and if this does not stop, there will be many wounds."
He further said, "I am not satisfied with what is happening now because we are heading in the wrong direction."
