Lawmaker Yongho Lee and Real Estate Policy Debate
Minister Kim: "Not the 22nd but the 4th Real Estate Policy"
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] On the 30th, Kim Hyun-mi, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, engaged in a verbal confrontation with independent lawmaker Lee Yong-ho over the government's real estate policies at the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee.
At the plenary session of the Budget Committee that day, Minister Kim actively refuted Lee's criticism that the government's various real estate policies had failed, stating, "I believe that all the policies have been working comprehensively so far."
The two clashed over how many real estate policies the government had announced.
Regarding the real estate measures announced on the 17th, Lee asked, "Is this the 22nd measure?" to which Minister Kim replied, "It is the 4th."
When Lee further asked, "Is the report calling it the 22nd real estate regulation policy incorrect?" Minister Kim responded, "The media counts all sorts of policies as real estate policies and created that number."
As the number of announcements was brought up again, Minister Kim somewhat irritably said, "No, I don't want to argue about numbers, but I answered because you asked."
When Lee pointed out, "If you announced it four times, does that mean three times were failures?" Minister Kim explained, "I believe all the policies have been working comprehensively so far."
When Lee asked what she meant by 'working,' Minister Kim explained, "Some policies have been implemented after being announced, while others have not yet been implemented. We need to see the comprehensive results of all policies later."
Regarding whether it is too early to evaluate the real estate policies, she said, "The December 16th measures were announced to strengthen the comprehensive real estate tax system, but since the tax law has not yet passed, we have not seen the results."
On that day, Lee criticized, "Minister Kim's answers do not properly reach the hearts of the house-less common people," adding, "The President also showed interest by saying house prices should return to their original state, but in reality, house prices and jeonse deposits are soaring, causing suffering for the house-less common people."
