Seogu Wondang-dong~Bullo-dong (Sections 2~4) 3.5km Approved by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Construction connecting Gyeyang Station on Incheon Subway Line 1 and Geomdan New Town will begin in the second half of this year.
Incheon City announced on the 30th that the construction project for the Geomdan extension of Incheon Subway Line 1 has received approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Accordingly, the project is planned to start in the second half of this year with the goal of opening in 2024.
The Incheon Subway Line 1 Geomdan extension project, with a total budget of 797.7 billion KRW, involves constructing three stations and tracks over a 6.8 km section from Gyeyang Station to Bulo-dong in Seo-gu. The approved project section covers a 3.5 km stretch (Sections 2 to 4) from Wondang-dong 101 Station to Bulo-dong 103 Station in Seo-gu.
The city planned to apply the shield TBM special construction method for the section passing under the Gyeongin Ara Waterway to ensure safe construction management. The locations of stations and entrances were selected to align with the Geomdan New Town housing development plan, and transfer routes were minimized compared to the basic plan to enhance passenger convenience.
The trains will operate with steel wheels and heavy electric trains, with a total of 35 train sets running on a manned operation system. Train intervals are planned to be 4 minutes 30 seconds during peak hours and 8 minutes 30 seconds during off-peak hours.
An Incheon City official stated, "The Geomdan extension of Incheon Subway Line 1 will establish infrastructure linked with the Airport Railroad and the northern Incheon urban rail network, contributing to alleviating the expected increase in transportation demand from the Geomdan New Town housing development project."
