A Work Depicting the Struggles of Young People Driven to Desertion Through the Eyes of Soldiers Catching Deserters
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The popular webtoon on Lezhin Comics, 'D.P Ga-ui Nal (D.P: Dog Day)', is being reborn as a drama on the online video service (OTT) Netflix.
Lezhin Entertainment announced on the 30th that the webtoon D.P Ga-ui Nal by writer Kim Botong, serialized on Lezhin Comics, will be produced as a drama and presented worldwide through Netflix.
D.P Ga-ui Nal is a hot topic work recognized for both artistic quality and popularity. It began serialization on Lezhin Comics in 2015 and has recorded about 10 million views to date. The work uses the new theme of "soldiers catching deserters" and depicts the worries of young people driven to desertion in the military through his perspective.
The Netflix original 'D.P. (tentative title)', directed by Han Jun-hee, who directed the films 'Hit-and-Run Squad' and 'Chinatown', is scheduled to begin production in the second half of the year along with casting confirmation.
The production will be handled by Lezhin Studio, led by CEO Byun Seung-min, who has experience in film distribution, investment, and production at investment-distribution company NEW and Warner Bros. Korea. Lezhin Studio is an investment production company acquired by Lezhin Entertainment in 2018 to create a virtuous cycle structure such as new illumination of webtoons and expansion of user base.
Writer Kim Botong expressed his expectations, saying, "It seems it will be an opportunity to pay attention to deserters, who have been hidden in invisible areas until now."
He previously debuted with the webtoon 'Amanza', which captured the emotions of daily life from the perspective of a young patient with terminal cancer, winning the 'Today's Our Cartoon Award'. This work also gained great popularity with about 12 million views on Lezhin Comics' Japanese service and publication by Kadokawa Publishing.
