[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] CJ Olive Young announced on the 30th that it has donated 40 million KRW to the social welfare foundation Children and Future Foundation to support domestic youth aging out of care.

The donation ceremony held on the 29th was attended by Park Doo-joon, Executive Director of Children and Future Foundation, and Sun Bo-kyung, Executive Director of CJ Olive Young. The donated funds will be used to support educational supplies for about 200 high school seniors living in child welfare facilities in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas, as well as for campaigns to improve awareness of youth aging out of care.

Youth aging out of care refers to adolescents who must leave childcare facilities upon turning 18 according to the Child Welfare Act. Supporting their independence as they enter society has recently become a social issue. In particular, prejudice against youth aging out of care has become an obstacle to their independence, highlighting the need for support for this overlooked group.

Accordingly, CJ Olive Young will collaborate with Children and Future Foundation to operate a university student supporter program in the second half of this year, producing videos to improve awareness of youth aging out of care.

The funds donated this time were raised through last year’s girl education campaign. Since 2014, CJ Olive Young has been conducting a girl education campaign with UNESCO to provide educational opportunities to female adolescents in developing countries. Until last year, about 1.5 billion KRW in donations were delivered to UNESCO and used to improve educational environments in countries such as Vietnam, Egypt, and Tanzania. This year, the support target is expanded domestically for the first time.

Park Doo-joon, Executive Director of Children and Future Foundation, said, “We expect that partnering with a company like CJ Olive Young, which is well recognized among the younger generation and has a progressive organizational culture, will provide vision and hope to youth aging out of care,” adding, “We will continue steady support beyond one-time efforts so that these youth can grow into healthy members of society.”

A CJ Olive Young official stated, “To support the adaptation and independence of youth aging out of care who have entered society, we planned awareness improvement activities together with Children and Future Foundation,” and added, “In the future, we plan to continue sharing activities not only supporting girl education in developing countries but also promoting the healthy beauty of vulnerable domestic youth.”
