[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon, Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Amid the ongoing conflict between Justice Minister Chu Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon urged, "(President Moon Jae-in) should dismiss Minister Chu Mi-ae."
On the 28th, Jin posted on his Facebook, stating, "The core issue is that Minister Chu Mi-ae places the corrupt pro-Moon faction above the law. In other words, the Justice Minister, who should protect the independence of the judiciary, instead ignores the law and acts as a steward defending the private interests of the pro-Moon faction," he said.
He added, "One must seriously question whether such a person should be entrusted with the position of Justice Minister, who safeguards 'fairness' and 'justice' in society," and "As long as this person remains in the Justice Minister's seat, conflicts within government ministries are inevitable."
He continued, "The goddess of justice, 'Dike,' holds scales in one hand and a sword in the other, and is blindfolded. That is what justice truly is," and "The mission of the Justice Minister is to establish justice like Dike. But what has Minister Chu Mi-ae done so far? Since becoming Justice Minister, she has consistently undermined justice by ignoring current laws," he criticized.
He went on, "Last November, during the height of the Cho Kuk incident, she said she would consider separating the prosecution and investigation roles," and "She ignored current laws not to apply rules to people, but for one person named Cho Kuk. The idea of changing rules to fit a person rather than applying rules to people reflects the level of the Justice Minister of the Republic of Korea," he pointed out.
Referring to various media reports on allegations against Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl and suspicions related to Yoon's mother-in-law, he questioned, "Why on earth is Minister Chu overreacting?" and added, "It is probably because her focus is less on the ministerial mission to protect the judiciary's independence and more on loyalty to the pro-Moon faction to realize her dreams of becoming president or mayor of Seoul."
Finally, he said, "The president must resolve this quickly," and "The president now needs to decide whether to trust Minister Chu Mi-ae or Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl."
