[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] Actress Park Ha-sun revealed the reason she stepped forward to promote Captain O Geum-son, a national defense hero. She also shared the significance of the Month of Patriots and Veterans based on her various thoughts on the current inter-Korean relations.
Park Ha-sun appeared on the June 27 broadcast of KBS1's 'News 9' in the 'Anchor Invitation' segment.
She explained the reason for launching the campaign to raise awareness of Korea's national defense heroes on the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, saying, "It is a campaign with the purpose of remembering, appreciating, and better knowing the lesser-known national defense heroes who worked hard to protect the country."
She continued, "I believe all Korean citizens share the same heart. If I can have a positive influence, I try to make time to participate in such activities."
Park Ha-sun took part in a campaign to promote the late Captain O Geum-son, a national defense hero and a nursing officer who served during the Korean War.
She described Captain O Geum-son as "an extraordinary person. She also served as a member of the Liberation Army, voluntarily enlisted to care for patients, and has a history of fighting directly. She was captured as a prisoner of war and endured severe torture, survived for ten days on a pile of corpses, and after discharge, despite the aftereffects of torture, she gave various lectures related to national defense and even prepared food to visit the Baekgol Unit."
She emphasized, "She dedicated her entire life to her homeland."
Having also hosted the June 15 Inter-Korean Joint Declaration Peace Concert, Park Ha-sun was asked if she has a strong interest in inter-Korean relations. She responded, "I think every Korean citizen is very interested."
She explained, "As an actress, I try to maintain neutrality because I have to play various roles and show different sides. However, as a citizen, if you have a passionate heart, I believe it is natural to have an interest."
Finally, Park Ha-sun said, "June is the Month of Patriots and Veterans. My interest began when I started participating in the campaign to promote national defense heroes," adding, "If the younger generation is not interested in these matters, I believe it is our collective responsibility to make them interested."
