[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] It is the strong performance of Kang Sung-hoon (33, CJ Logistics).

On the 27th (Korean time), at the River Highlands TPC in Cromwell, Connecticut, USA (par 70, 6,841 yards), during the second day of the PGA Tour Travelers Championship (total prize money $7.4 million), he recorded 3 under par and stood tied for 9th place (8 under par, 132 strokes). Veteran Phil Mickelson leads (13 under par, 127 strokes), with Will Gordon (both USA) and Mackenzie Hughes (Canada) tied for 2nd place (12 under par, 128 strokes), and 'Number 1' Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) among five players tied for 4th place (9 under par, 131 strokes).

Kang Sung-hoon started tied for 11th place, 5 strokes behind the leader, and combined 5 birdies and 2 bogeys. In the front nine, he exchanged one birdie for one bogey and struggled to reduce his score. However, in the back nine, he raised his position with consecutive birdies on holes 3 and 4, followed by a birdie on hole 6 (par 5). Although he faltered with a bogey on hole 8 (par 3), he immediately recovered with a birdie on the final hole 9 (par 4). He powered his game with a green hit rate of 88.89% and an average of 1.688 putts per hole.

He is 5 strokes behind the leader, in a position to expect his second career win since his first victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May last year. His best result in the 2020 season was a tie for 2nd place at the Genesis Invitational in February. Mickelson swept up 8 birdies (1 bogey) to top the leaderboard. Gordon surged into the leading group with 8 under par, but Hughes, who was 3 strokes ahead the previous day, slowed down with 2 under par.

McIlroy reduced his score by 2 strokes to continue the battle for the championship. Xander Schauffele, Brendan Steele, Brendon Todd (all USA), and Mark Leishman (Australia) are in the group tied for 4th place. 'The Hulk' Bryson DeChambeau (USA) recorded 3 under par and is watching for an opportunity from tied 9th place. Dustin Johnson is tied for 20th place (7 under par, 133 strokes), and world No. 2 Jon Rahm (Spain) is tied for 26th place (6 under par, 134 strokes). 'Number 3' Justin Thomas (USA) is tied for 126th place (2 over par, 142 strokes) and has been cut.

From Korea, Noh Seung-yul (29, Nike Golf) reduced 2 strokes and joined the tie for 9th place. Kim Si-woo (25) is tied for 26th place, and An Byeong-hun (29) is tied for 53rd place (4 under par, 136 strokes). 'PO Ranking No. 3' Im Sung-jae (22) barely escaped the risk of being cut for the second consecutive tournament with a birdie on the final hole 9. He is tied for 53rd place. Lee Kyoung-hoon (29, both CJ Logistics) scored 1 under par but was 2 strokes short. He missed advancing to the third round with a tie for 83rd place (2 under par, 138 strokes), a disappointing result.
