[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Tax officials belonging to the Nam-gu Office of Gwangju Metropolitan City donated the reward money received for being selected as the ‘Best Institution in the Comprehensive Local Tax Administration Evaluation’ organized by Gwangju City as scholarships to nurture local talent.
According to Nam-gu on the 26th, employees belonging to the Taxation Division 1 and Taxation Division 2 of the district office handed over 10 million won in reward money to Deputy Mayor Heo Gi-seok that morning.
The tax officials returned the incentives paid as work performance after being selected as the best institution in the ‘2019 Fiscal Year Comprehensive Local Tax Administration Evaluation’ conducted by Gwangju City earlier this year targeting five autonomous districts in Gwangju to improve local tax collection rates and develop tax administration, thereby creating scholarship funds.
Last year, the district office tax officials operated a regular mobile team to seize license plates of delinquent vehicles to improve local tax collection rates, and provided taxpayer-centered conveniences such as CMS automatic withdrawal service and installment payment of arrears, achieving the best results in three areas: local tax administration, local tax arrears, and non-tax revenue.
Deputy Mayor Heo Gi-seok decided to donate the 10 million won scholarship money contributed by the tax officials to the Nam-gu Scholarship Foundation, and the scholarship will be awarded to students who are striving to achieve their dreams and goals despite difficult circumstances.
The tax officials said, “We were able to achieve good results by doing our best in our duties to develop local tax administration and resolve fairness with taxpayers regarding chronic arrears, and furthermore, we feel very meaningful to be able to donate the reward money to the good cause of nurturing talent.”
Deputy Mayor Heo Gi-seok said, “The district office employees worked hard to secure insufficient local resources, and thanks to that, our Nam-gu was able to achieve outstanding results in the field of local tax administration last year,” and added, “I am very grateful and thankful for their support in this good cause.”
