Introduced at the '4th Industrial Revolution Smart Defense Innovation'... Defense Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Also Show Interest
Minister Choi Ki-young of the Ministry of Science and ICT and Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo of the Ministry of National Defense are visiting the Air Force 20th Fighter Wing and receiving an explanation about Jacob System Co., Ltd.'s 'Sniper Virtual Training System.'
As urban combat is expected to intensify in densely populated city areas in the event of war, a sniper training system incorporating virtual reality (VR) has been developed and established.
Jacob System Co., Ltd. recently attracted attention by introducing the completed "Sniper Virtual Training System" at the "4th Industrial Revolution Smart Defense Innovation" event held at the Air Force 20th Fighter Wing.
The event aimed to build an "Intelligent Smart Unit" and showcased next-generation advanced technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution developed by various private companies. These companies exhibited a variety of innovative future military technologies.
In particular, Jacob System Co., Ltd. drew attention by introducing the country's first "Sniper Virtual Training System." This system uses virtual reality to train snipers deployed in various operations such as advance operations and enemy elimination, and was established at the Air Force Education Command as an R&D project of the Ministry of Science and ICT.
At Jacob System Co., Ltd.'s exhibition booth, Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo and Minister of Science and ICT Choi Ki-young also visited and received explanations about the "Sniper Virtual Training System."
Sniper shooting training requires a shooting range of over 400 meters. However, there are practical constraints such as lack of space, limited usage frequency, and high training costs, and there are few large-scale training grounds suitable for sniper training.
The "Sniper Virtual Training System" is gaining attention as an alternative to solve these practical problems. Jacob System Co., Ltd. closely cooperated with the military to develop the necessary technologies for actual training to build a realistic system.
Specifically, VR technology was introduced into ultra-compact scopes and observation binocular equipment. Additionally, the country's first K-14 sniper rifle equipped with various analytical sensors was developed.
Furthermore, the system analyzes and provides information such as the trainee's firing process, shooting results, and heart rate, enabling systematic sniper training.
The appearance and weight of these training devices were also made similar to actual equipment, allowing for more realistic training. The sniper program also allows for various training scenarios by setting virtual environments such as unexpected situations. The "Sniper Virtual Training System" is evaluated to be very helpful in improving sniper skills.
In this regard, the Ministry of National Defense anticipates that urban combat in densely populated areas will become more active and is focusing on training snipers.
Jeong Ja-hyun, CEO of Jacob System Co., Ltd., stated, "Starting with Air Force sniper training using the K14 rifle, we plan to expand VR-related technologies to various fields such as the Army and police," adding, "We will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution through continuous technological development and cooperation with global companies."
