Small and Medium Enterprises Provide Supplies for Low-Income and Vulnerable Families... Deliver KF94 Masks, Dental Masks, Fans to Overcome COVID-19 and Prepare for Heatwave
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) announced on the 24th that warm movements are continuing as the local community strives to overcome the economic crisis caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) together.
Despite the surge in small and medium-sized business owners and companies facing financial difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, local businesses have united to practice sharing for the more vulnerable low-income and disadvantaged groups.
First, on the 23rd, AK Trading, a company located in Daebang-dong, donated 20,000 dental masks.
The district plans to distribute the donated masks to low-income students in elementary, middle, and high schools in the area, providing 10 masks per student at each school.
Also, Taeryeo Construction Industry, active in the region, donated 50,000 KF94 health masks and held a delivery ceremony at Dongjak-gu Office on the 23rd.
The district, upon recommendation from the Dongjak Welfare Foundation, will select recipients among the elderly, gap households, single-parent families, and low-income disabled individuals, and plans to deliver the items by the end of June.
On the 17th, Donghun General Construction, located in Sadang 3-dong, sponsored 50 electric fans for low-income families.
Welfare planners strictly followed quarantine rules such as wearing masks and using hand sanitizers, visiting vulnerable households including elderly living alone and low-income residents in housing-vulnerable areas to deliver the fans.
In addition, amid these difficult times for everyone, the ‘Good Landlord Movement’ and the ‘District-wide Good Consumption Movement’ are also being promoted to support small business owners who are suffering greater damage.
The district is encouraging participation and promoting these movements together with landlords of traditional markets and alleyway commercial districts, as well as merchant associations. Building owners who join the rent reduction movement receive incentives such as ‘on-site safety inspections’ and ‘signboard improvements’ provided by the district.
As a result of promoting the ‘Good Landlord Movement,’ 1,076 building owners have participated so far, benefiting tenants of 2,526 stores with monthly rent reductions.
Also, as part of the ‘District-wide Good Consumption Movement,’ efforts are being made to revitalize the local commercial district through consumption promotion events involving the public, private, and academic sectors, and expanding the use of traditional markets.
Changwoo Lee, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “The warm movements of residents are becoming the driving force to overcome the COVID-19 crisis. I sincerely thank everyone who has participated and ask for continued practice of ‘strengthened daily quarantine measures equivalent to social distancing’ until the COVID-19 situation stabilizes.”
