Seoul City Operates Online Experience Program for Public Hanok Including Baeryeom House

[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 23rd that it will offer the representative experience programs of two public hanok historic houses (Baeryeom House and Hong Geon-ik House) to citizens online and non-face-to-face starting from the 26th. This event is for citizens who find it difficult to visit the historic houses due to indefinite closures and lifestyle distancing measures.

This non-face-to-face program includes enjoying the scenery of the two historic houses, the process of making Baechup (traditional folding screen), a Filundong concert video, and providing free traditional culture experience kits (seal carving, tea ceremony experience). Citizens can enjoy rich content to experience the historic houses at home through online platforms (YouTube, Instagram).

Baeryeom House and Hong Geon-ik House are currently closed to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). When reopened, they will operate from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Mondays and public holidays), and admission is free.

Kang Maeng-hoon, Director of the Seoul Urban Regeneration Office, said, “We will continue to actively utilize online platforms to allow citizens to experience various cultural and artistic programs of the historic houses, and we hope this will be a gift-like rest to the daily lives lost due to COVID-19.”
